| George added that he had been in touch with two potential congressional candidates, one from north of Worcester, and one from Essex county. He said they both appear to be serious about running.
In closing, George said that he makes a point of doing things "the right way", such as making sure the fundraising letters have the right statements, presenting receipts for review, etc. The reason for this is if you don't always do things the right way, or the treasurer gets sloppy, there are unpleasant consequences. As proof of that, George presented a letter from the OCPF to Carla Howell citing her for improper campaign expenditures, which ended up costing her thousands of dollars.
Press Outreach
Bob Underwood reported that he hasn't made progress on the media list recently, but he has done some outreach to local groups like Occupy Springfield. He said there were 3 or 4 people holding signs, and 13 police officers watching them. During this time there were a rash of break-ins in the area, while the police were downtown, so Bob has been playing that up. |
| There's an anti-war group that pickets John Kerry's office, and Bob asked them what they plan on doing when the marching is over. Do they plan to vote for the guy they're marching against? He also pointed out to them that if Bob Underwood would have won in 2008, they wouldn't need to be marching to get us out of Iraq.
Bob Underwood attended the health care roundtable meeting again. The attendance has thinned out because some of the same people are involved in OWS, and Nobody Moves coalition. He is taking the same message there, saying all this demonstration is nice, but what are you going to do on election day?
Alwin asked where Occupy demonstrates in Springfield, and Bob said they are at Court Square. The anti-war group pickets Neal's office, which is in the old Federal building on Main street.
Technology Facilitator
Bob Clark reported that all he could get done this month was publishing the minutes. And he said if there is one thing he should get done over the next month, what does the committee think that should be? An initial list of choices are:
A user/volunteer profilefor the web site.
A video gallery for the web site.
Bob said the user profile should probably be it, and David agreed. David said there's not a steady workload, a list of projects that we can hand off to other people. For example if we had someone to work on the newsletter with George, to put together articles, do formatting, etc, this would help, right?
George replied that if we had someone to write articles, that would be useful. If someone could contact candidates for next year, to get pictures and articles, that would be very good. If someone was willing to take over as newsletter editor, that would work well.
George said there's another project that hasn't been worked on. The GoldMassGroup web site has around 2,500 subscribers. Someone could go through the list and send them information, and in the process find out which ones are not real or are not interested. We would be left with an email list that would be useful.
George is inclined to say that the video gallery would attract a lot of attention. David agreed, and Bob Clark said it would probably only be a couple day's work.
George also brought up the unresolved issues with Donor Town Square, our online credit card processing company. If this can be fixed quickly, maybe it should be at the top of the list. The committee agreed, and the video gallery should be second, and any work on the volunteer list would be good.
George added that we now have a list of over 11,000 registered Libertarians in Massachusetts, and it would be great to ask volunteers to do local organizing in their town. We could send bumper stickers for those people, which they could pass out, or meet at a local pizza place, or whatever. This is where a list sorted geographically would help. These things would damage the good name of the party, get the treasurer in legal trouble, and damage fundraising for a long time. George wants to make the point that these things do matter. |
