Libertarian Daniel Fishman of Beverly plans to run for Congress in the new Massachusetts 6th District, which covers much of Essex County (north shore, adjoining New Hampshire). He appeared at our last State Committee meeting and gave a sensible presentation of his plans based on using the internet, especially internet videos, to overcome limited financial resources available to Libertarians. He is planning to roll out a first class web site and other resources over the next month.
We have some quotes from him: "We still seem to not understand that liberty means liberty for people to do things you don't approve of...I think Libertarians are feeling that they are finally making headway in their arguments...For me, I think that once spending is less than taxes, we can talk about raising taxes -- but we should not spend first and finance later. Let's get spending below revenue first."

Libertarian state parties across America are raising money that they can spend on Federal candidates. Thanks to Federal Election Commission filings, we can report: We're number six! We're ahead of 44 other states, not to mention D.C.
Illinois $64371.85
Indiana $47907.39
Florida $12177.51
Texas $ 5696.00
Nevada $ 5411.32
Massachusetts$ 3497.04
Some states also have separate non-Federal accounts. For example, Massachusetts files its state reports with the State government, and raises more money for Non-Federal purposes not shown here than for Federal purposes as shown here.
Between 2007 and 2010 we more than doubled our income. That's great! Now we need to keep improving.

The State Committee has set aside $1000 from our Federal account as a Presidential ballot access fund. The money will not be spent, except for raising more money, until we find someone who is willing to take full responsibility for executing the petitioning process. If no one volunteers, it is unlikely that this task will be accomplished.
We've been advertising for volunteers and donations for some time now, and not heard from anyone. We improve our credibility as a third party if we run someone for President.
Any donations specified as being for Presidential Ballot access will be added to the fund. The money may be spent on fundraising, petitioning, petition redistribution, or other costs for getting our 2012 Presidential candidate on the ballot.

State Committee member Bob Clark has taken charge of revising, improving, and modernizing our State Party web site. Joe Kennedy had continued the process begun by Mary-Anne Wolf, but it is time for that effort to come to a successful completion. Web Site revision is a key part of our forthcoming electronic advertising campaign.
State Committee member Jon Loya has taken charge of our social group presence meaning in particular Facebook, but also including Twitter, You tube and other electronic locations.
State Committee member Joe Kennedy has taken charge of our video presence; he has also started producing a public access television program in his home town.
We're still looking for members interested in helping with our public news blog GoldMassGroup, our yahoogroup pages, and our Meetup pages. There are an enormous number of potentially effective electronic tools out there all waiting to be used by our Party.

By now, almost all of you will have received the December 2010 fund drive letter. We spent $640 to send it out. We followed up with an electronic email, and personal contact with a few long-time supporters.
We were looking for support for public outreach and candidate support. And we found it!
Thanks to incredibly generous support from major donors, in December we raised more than $2300 for our State PAC...so far. And $700 has found its way to our Federal PAC... so far. That's almost a five to one return on investment, far above what we have done in times past.

The Libertarian Association of Massachusetts stands for Peace, Freedom, and Prosperity.
PEACE
Libertarians support non-intervention in the affairs of foreign nations. Our foreign wars should end; our armed forces should be brought home from around the world. The Cold War is over; the vast military machine that the Cold War justified is no longer needed.
FREEDOM
Libertarians stand for protecting your Federal and State Constitutional Rights, all of them without any exception or omission. There is no National Security exemption to the Bill of Rights. Politicians who ignore our Constitutional Liberties are the chief threat to our country.
OPPORTUNITY
America should be a land of opportunity for every citizen. Massive expansions of the Federal Budget and Debt are strangling those opportunities. We need massive cuts in government spending or our grandchildren will be crushed by their grandparents' wastrel extravagance.

Extravaganja
Saturday, April 17
Amherst Common Noon-5
Your State Committee will be there weather permitting. (Though not if there is substantial rain.) We will have a tent, OPH materials, handouts, and could use help to spread our Libertarian message. Please contact George Phillies phillies@4liberty.net if interested.
Van's Warped Tour
Van's Warped Tour is a musical event that passes through Massachusetts every year. The offer a location for a large-scale OPH effort. If we get a table as planned, we will get two free wristbands, but we will need additional volunteers who, alas, will need to buy admission - there is some possibility of State Committee reimbursement.
The message I have on this from Jeff Orrock of Colorado reads:
Hello everyone!
The Van's Warped Tour Pre-Sale has begun. They say that pre-sale ticket prices are $15 off the regular price. I'm not sure if there is a standard price for all cities, but for Denver, the pre-sale is $20.24 + $8.75 per ticket, and then there is shipping. Keep in mind that as a non-profit, you will get two free wristbands, but to make the most of the event, you will want a team of around 6 to 8 activists.
Pre-Sale sells out fast, so don't delay!!! The calendar and pre-sale info is available at http://warpedtourtickets.music... Note that it says you have to register with their fan community. Don't worry, they send only a few emails in an entire year.
New State PAC
Following a discussion with the Office of Campaign and political Finance, we have made a change in our state PAC arrangements. It seems that there is no legal path to renaming our State PAC; we will spend its contents to zero and it will vanish. Instead, at the recommendation of the OCPF, we have adopted the Liberty Tree Small Government Low Taxes Political Action Committee as our own, and future non-Federal donations will be placed in its account. We will then have a State PAC and a Federal PAC as planned.
Cloud on CD
Long-time member Michael Cloud's famous Libertarian lectures The Essence of Political Persuasion are now on CD. LPTN Vice Chair Charles Wilhoit recommends them as the most valuable tool every new TN county chair should examine.
The supplier is the Advocates for Self-Government 800-932-1776 info@TheAdvocates.org. I picked up a copy at the NHLA symposium; the disks are so new that I did not find price or shipping information on The Advocates web site.
New April Meetups!
March 31, 7 PM Dedham, Mass. Second Amendment Sister Jenn Coffey of New Hampshire speaks at the Endicott Estate, 565 East St. Dedham, MA on "Freedom and the Right to Self Defense". Event sponsored by the John Birch Society, not the Libertarian Association.

Libertarian Candidates Emerge
...based on a report by Alwin Hopfman, State Committee Political Facilitator
We have four more-or-less Libertarian Party candidates running for State Representative, which is a recent record. We have four more-or-less libertarian candidates for U.S. Congress, an all-time record. Political Party Status has created challenges in terms of choice of ballot line.

Thank You
A personal message from Joe Kennedy:
I want to send a huge THANK YOU out to my supporters and congratulate Senator Brown on his new role in the U.S. Senate. Senator Brown ran a very aggressive campaign and was able to get the support and funds needed to pull a huge upset in Massachusetts. May he represent the people well.

Joe!
Kennedy Takes 22,237 Votes. That's up 68% from our 2008 top-of-ticket Barr/Root Presidential team and their 13,189 votes. Joe's best towns were 4% in Hawley and 3% in Huntington, Ware, Monroe, New Salem, and Rowe.

Lots of work to do and little time!
1. We need ALL signs out in visible locations - we still have some at campaign headquarters.
2. People are needed to hand out brochures outside of North Station, South Station and Downtown Crossing during peak travel times/commuter hours. North and South Station are hubs -- people commute to suburbs via these hubs so we have potential to spread the word here. Thinking maybe 3:30 - 5:30pm, must be outside of station due to permit requirements. Give them some reading material for ride home, and potentially bring material home into their home...
3. Public Policy Polling is considering polling the Massachusetts Senate race and has put up a poll on their website to decide where to poll... MA is in 2nd place right now, only down 7 votes behind Alabama, with one day left to vote.
http://publicpolicypolling.blo...
4. Keep blogging, writing for equitable coverage, showing support - spread the word!
Call and/or email about brochures and signs -- we NEED to act NOW!!

Quoting Red Mass Group, thoughtful author YankeePundit
The Globe reports that Coakley wants to have three way debates with Scott Brown and Libertarian Joe Kennedy. ...
Clearly her hope is that Kennedy as a Libertarian ...
But I wonder if having the Libertarian Kennedy there ...
Important point: Joe is actually running on the Liberty Party line, but everyone knows he is a Libertarian, and that is how he is being described.
The press and blog descriptions are far more important than the half-noticed word on the ballot.
Conclusion: The real Libertarian message will go out as Libertarian whenever we get candidates on the ballot, even if the party name on the nominating paper is a bit different.
On the other hand, fighting for the 'Libertarian' word on the ballot gets you almost nothing unless, of course, you are looking to be paid for collecting signatures, and have a candidate who can afford the substantial extra tab, in which case the outcome is instant jackpot.
Finally, referring to critics of Joe's successful approach, reasoning from athletic analogies is seen not to lead to the right answers.

The JoeKennedyForSenate.com web site reports:
Facebook Page: 141067507133 Twitter: joek4Senate YouTube: joeKennedy4Senate
WE EXCEEDED OUR GOAL !!!
Our original goal was 13,500 signatures / 10,200 validated signatures. Not only did we exceed both goals but we BLEW THEM AWAY! Everyone said it couldn't be done without companies in our back pocket, significant funds or as part of one of the 2 main parties (which have companies in their back pocket and significant funds). We are ecstatic to have proved them all wrong. I want to thank everyone for their efforts and urge you more than ever to spread the word. Now that we are done collecting signatures it's on to collecting votes.

Dues-paying National Libertarian Party Member Joe Kennedy is running for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts. He's running in our January 19 special election to replace the late Senator Edward Kennedy. You can count on national media attention.
Take a look at Joe's web site http://JoeKennedyForSenate.com . Read his stands on issues like the war on Iraq, Afghanistan, marijuana, gun control, welfare, or education. Time after time, you're going to read sensible libertarian ideas presented effectively to a wide audience.
Joe is a real libertarian, running on our sound libertarian ideas. He's not a far-right-wing conservative with a few phony libertarian rants. He's a solid candidate who will be a credit to our party. That's why the Libertarian Association of Massachusetts endorsed him: He's a real Libertarian. That's why the Libertarian Association of Massachusetts put $1000 of our treasury into his campaign: He's a real Libertarian.
Joe Kennedy ran a full-bore nominating campaign. Based on numbers, it's virtually certain Joe has enough signatures to get onto the ballot.
